Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then found multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say initial examinations show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in association with the event," they added.
City officials announced they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the public for details.
An important representative said the vandalism made him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
